Pregnancy Symptoms

If you’ve had sex since your last period and are experiencing any of the symptoms below, you might be pregnant.

Common signs of pregnancy:

1. A late or missed period
2. Nausea with or without vomiting
3. Increased urination
4. Spotting
5. Cramping
6. Fatigue
7. Lightheadedness or dizziness
8. Cravings or aversions to certain foods
9. Increased sense of smell
10. Darkening of areolae (nipples)
11. Swollen, sore or itchy breasts

If you think you could be pregnant, the first thing to do is take a home pregnancy test. Pregnancy tests detect the presence of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone which is only produced by your body when you are pregnant. If you can’t afford a pregnancy test or want to confirm your results, Northtown Pregnancy Center offers free pregnancy testing that can detect hCG as soon as seven days after conception or 21-24 days after your last menstrual period.

Keep in mind that pregnancy tests are not 100% accurate and that 1 in 4 pregnancies end naturally on their own. We will also provide a free ultrasound to confirm whether you are carrying a viable fetus.

I’m Definitely Pregnant; What Are My Options?

Once you’re sure you are pregnant, you have three options for how to deal with your pregnancy: parenting, abortion, and adoption. Northtown Pregnancy Center can discuss each of these options with you nonjudgmentally, including what you can do as a minor with and without parental consent, and how to tell your partner and/or parents/family about your pregnancy and direction.

1. Parenting: Becoming a mom

Northtown Pregnancy Center provides free parenting education and resources. Whether you have questions about single parenting, co-parenting, marriage, balancing school and pregnancy, or other topics, we can provide answers and help you find the resources that best fit your needs in a safe, confidential setting.

2. Abortion: Ending your pregnancy

Before you get an abortion, you will an ultrasound to see if your pregnancy is viable. We’ll also need to see how far along you are in your pregnancy to determine what type of abortion you are eligible for. Northtown Pregnancy Center provides free ultrasounds as part of our full pre-termination evaluation, where we’ll also test for STDs, answer all of your questions and concerns, and provide the resources you need.

Northtown Pregnancy Center is a non-profit organization that exists to serve women facing unplanned pregnancy, so we never financially benefit from your decision. Your options will be discussed with you without judgment or pressure, no matter what you decide.

3. Adoption: Carrying your baby to term and allowing someone else to raise your child

If you are not ready to become a parent or another child is not an option, you may want to consider adoption. This loving choice gives your child the opportunity to grow up in a family who has been praying for them. In many cases you will be eligible to receive financial assistance for medical and living expenses, as well as other benefits.
